APPA Market Access & Association Seminars

March 21-23, 2018
Orange County Convention Center
APPA will be hosting a meeting for Pet Food and Treat Manufacturers to discuss the latest regulatory updates for pet food and treats. Stop by for lunch and hear Dr David Dzanis, APPA’s Pet Food Nutritionist, speak about the newest regulatory trends that are being discussed by AAFCO and the FDA, which may impact your requirements.
One of the important “hot” topics that Dr Dzanis will be talking about will be efforts by AAFCO toward "Pet Food Labeling Modernization." AAFCO wants to revamp the labels to be more akin to human food labeling. This will likely include replacing the guaranteed analysis and calorie content statement with a "Pet Nutrition Facts Box." There will also likely be changes as to how nutritional adequacy will be declared on the label, how ingredients can be declared, and new needs for safe handling directions. Although this is a monumental task, it is being fast-tracked (at least, very fast compared to most regulatory matters). Also likely to come up include the status of "human grade" claims, and a proposal to amend the dental claim guidance.
There is no need to register for this meeting and it is open to all APPA members.
Updating last year’s Global Pet Expo presentation, Packaged Facts will cover trends in pet owner shopping and spending across brick-and-mortar channels and through websites/mobile apps, with a focus on dog and cat products. This data-rich discussion will compareonline/mobile shopper patterns to those for pet specialty and mass-market retailers, and also address the changing role of the veterinarian channel in pet product shopping and promotion.
Get a first look at the newest volume of APPA’s Generational Report! Come learn what makes Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers and Builders tick when it comes to their pets. This seminar will feature a topline look at pet ownership by generation, including spending, attitudinal, and pet product and service usage data. The presentation will also include a snapshot look at the 2017-2018 National Pet Owners Survey data.
Pet care is a vibrant industry with new product development closely linked to owners’ food preferences and choices. Trends such as humanization are being pushed further as pet owners treat their pets as a part of their family. In his presentation, Jarek Koerten, Lead Research Analyst for Pet Care at Euromonitor International, will look at the performance of the industry globally, new trends impacting the market, and how brand owners can position themselves to succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace. Addressing both the pet food and pet products categories, Jared will highlight key opportunities and future prospects for the industry.
First time exhibitors are invited to get acquainted with APPA staff and service providers during this one hour reception. Hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine will be served.
