Global Pet Expo Receives Trade Show Executive’s Grand Award for Best Use of Social Media

(Greenwich, CT) - Andy Darmohraj, American Pet Products Association (APPA) Executive Vice President and COO, is pleased to announce that in addition to being recognized by Trade Show Executive (TSE) for six straight years in their Gold 100 Awards, Global Pet Expo is now being honored with the Grand Award for Best Use of Social Media resulting from the 2013 Show.

“Social media plays a key role in the overall success of Global Pet Expo,” said Darmohraj. “Pre-show communication as well as onsite, real-time social media engagement has helped connect with attendees in such a way that it enhances their Show experience.”

During the week of the Show, there were 4,273 tweets about Global Pet Expo from buyers, exhibitors and media alike, generating over 13.5 million impressions. #globalpetexpo was one of the top trending stories on Twitter during Show week, and a live Twitter feed was displayed on screens throughout the Show floor encouraging further engagement. The Global Pet Expo Twitter page grew 38 percent over the previous year (2012), boasting 3,198 followers and the Facebook page grew 36 percent, and had 3,133 likes. Global Pet Expo’s YouTube channel showed the greatest increase at over 29,000 views, up 58 percent from the previous year.

Thousands tuned in daily on the Global Pet Expo YouTube Channel and on Global Pet Expo’s website to catch all the latest Show news and daily highlights via the new Global Pet Expo TV video series. Additionally, a link to the daily video news was emailed each day of the Show to Global Pet Expo’s entire attendee and exhibitor database.

In addition, the Global Pet Expo mobile site was available pre-show and during the Show as a quick resource for a list of exhibitors, a schedule of events and seminars, and even Show discounts that exhibitors were offering.

“We attribute our success to making sure that we’re not just pushing out updates across all platforms, but instead are strategic as to which medium we’re using for specific groups, and more importantly using it in such a way that it’s relevant and encourages interaction,” added Darmohraj.
