Gina Spadafori Honored at Global Pet Expo 2007

- Gina Spadafori Named 2007 Recipient of the Annual Excellence in Pet Industry Journalism Award and is Recognized for Her Outstanding Contributions to Pet Industry-

(Greenwich, CT)— The American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) and Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA) are pleased to announce that Gina Spadafori has been named the 2007 recipient of the annual Excellence in Pet Industry Journalism Award. Gina was presented with the award at Global Pet Expo held in February in Orlando, Florida

Gina Spadafori is a nationally syndicated pet-care columnist and the author of several pet-care books, including the New York Times best-seller, "Why Do Dogs Drink Out of the Toilet," co-authored with her writing partner, "Good Morning America" veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker and published by HCI. With Dr. Becker she also wrote "Do Cats Alway Land on Their Feet?" and the team is now working on a book on horses, "Why Do Horses Sleep Standing Up?"

Gina has served on the boards of directors of both the Cat Writers Association and the Dog Writers Association of America. She has also received writing awards from each group for both her column and books.

Along with co-author Dr. Paul D. Pion, a top veterinary cardiologist, she wrote the top-selling" Cats For Dummies," which was named one of the 100 best feline moments in the 20th century by Cat Fancy magazine. With internationally recognized avian specialist Dr. Brian L. Speer, Gina has also written "Birds For Dummies," one of the best-selling books on pet birds ever written. Her "Dogs For Dummies" was named the best writing on dogs by the Dog Writers Association for the year it was published.

Her books have been translated into many languages, including French, Serbian, Danish, Japanese and Russian and sold hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide.

Gina lives in Northern California, which she shares a home with a houseful of pets of all kinds. She trains and competes with her retrievers in hunt tests and in the show ring. “Gina has eloquently shared the joys of spending time with pets with millions of people worldwide,” said Bob Vetere, President of APPMA. “For that and all her contributions, she deserves to be commended. We are thrilled to have her as such an integral part of the pet industry.”Global Pet Expo 2007 was held in Orlando, February 22-24 and is the pet industry’s largest annual trade show.


Global Pet Expo, the largest annual pet industry trade show in the world, is presented by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association (APPMA) and Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA). The 2006 Show featured 700 exhibiting companies utilizing 215,000 net square feet of exhibit space.  More than 700 new product launches were featured and 3,600 pet product buyers from around the world attended. In 2008, Global Pet Expo will take place February 14-16 in San Diego, CA. Global Pet Expo is open to independent retailers, distributors, mass-market buyers, and other qualified professionals.
